I’ve recently noticed that my gums bleed slightly when I brush and sometimes they feel tender or swollen. I’m worried this could be an early sign of gum disease, but I’m not sure at what age these problems typically begin. I want to understand if this is normal or if I need professional care soon.

Gum problems and bleeding often start appearing in adults from their late 20s to 30s, though some may notice signs earlier depending on oral hygiene, lifestyle and genetics. Bleeding gums can indicate early gum disease or inflammation, which is easier to treat when detected early. At Dental Clinic Thomson, our dentists can provide a thorough check-up, professional cleaning and personalised advice to improve gum health, helping prevent further issues and maintain a healthy smile.
